Autumn Shoots

Peaky Blinders returns and we are delighted to confirm that Andrew Koji will play a guest lead over 2 episodes filming this autumn. Eugene O’Hare is currently shooting Dublin Murders for the BBC; adapted by Sarah Phelps this 8 part crime drama will come to our screens next year with Eugene playing series regular Detective Quigley. Oliver Dench joins the cast of Noughts and Crosses, Mammoth/BBC’s adaptation of the Malorie Blackman books now filming in Cape Town with Kibwe Taveres directing; Jordan Mifsúd plays the recurring role of Krzystof in new Tall Story Pictures/ ITV drama The Bay set in Morecambe with Lee Haven Jones directing whilst Max Fowler will join the regular cast of The Affair for the 5th and final season of the acclaimed drama from Showtime. Jospeh May will play Brett across the new series of Dark Money, a timely and evocative new drama around child abuse written by BAFTA winner Levi David Addai for BBC/The Forge. Gary Oliver, David Nellist and Rocky Marshall have all been cast in The Confession penned by Jeff Pope (Little Boy Blue, The Moorside) which details the investigation behind the disappearance of Sian O’Callaghan in 2011, Paul Andrew Williams directs. Richard Teverson will portray Colin Tenant in the much anticipated Season 3 recast of The Crown for Left Bank Pictures/Sony/Netflix whilst Joe Sims joins the Netflix Original and Emmy Winning Free Rein for Season 3. Graduate Lion Russell Baumann makes his screen debut as Prince Sigmund in Mammoth /ITV’s Victoria. Aleksandar Mikic and Robert Hands film guest roles in Paramout’s Berlin Station; Chris Harper returns to ITV screens in the ever popular Endeavour, Rebecca Johnson joins the cast of Good Karma Hospital this season playing the returning role of Lesley McConnell and Robert Cavanah will play the role of Gilbert Benson across Season 5 of BBC’s Shetland.

Comedy shoots this autumn include Melanie Kilburn in new Sky comedy Brassic; Carol Macready and Kate Fahy currently filming new BBC comedy drama Don’t Forget The Driver, written and directed by Toby Jones and set in the post Brexit world of Bognor Regis; Cosima Shaw in Home a new comedy series for Ch 4 written and starring Rufus Jones and Sophie Stone will be playing a guest lead in the next series of BBC comedy Two Door Down.

In film news Ben Dilloway shoots Rare Beasts, Billie Piper’s directorial debut, Thomas Coombes and Sally Scott film Summerland, Jessica Swale’s first feature and Robert Cavanah portrays Joe Boyle in historical drama Queen Marie of Romania.

Thomas Coombes joins the cast of Hatton Garden – Jeff Pope and Paul Whittington’s next collaboration for ITV after Little Boy Blue and The Moorside, this time telling the inside story of the infamous jewell heist. Filming begins in Budapest on the second season of National Geographic’s MARS the global sic-fi series from Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment with Cosima Shaw reprising her role as Leslie. Matt Rawle films a guest role in Trust, Danny Boyle’s new show for FX about the Getty family whilst Sally Scott shoots Trauma, Mike Bartlett’s new drama for ITV with Marc Evans directing. Rocky Marshall returns as bodyguard James Hill in The Royals whilst Esther Coles joins the popular comedy series Josh which returns again to the BBC for series 3. Roger Sloman and Gavin Spokes make guest appearances in Greg Davies’ Man Down whilst Emma Handy and Sam Alexander both return to Doc Martin for the much loved new series. New grad Patricia Allison completes filming on Thanks For the Memories a 2 x 90’ film for ZDF based on Cecelia Ahern’s novel whilst Colm Gormly films a guest role in Victoria, Mammoth Screen/ITV, Paul Frift directing.

Carol Macready completes filming on Walk Like A Panther, Fox International’s new comedy drama about the British wrestling world with Dan Cadan directing. Hayley Carmichael shoots Overlord, Julius Avery and JJ Abraham’s World War II
drama set in France. Ken Bones films Baghdad In My Shadow, a thriller set amidst London’s Iraqi community directed by Samir and Kriss Dosanjh films Benjamin, Simon Amstell’s writing and directorial debut feature. Meanwhile, Special Sundance Jury Award winner Gods Own Country featuring Melanie Kilburn as Gloria will be released in UK in early September and Sophie Stevens‘ first feature The Black Prince (from the producers of 12 Years a Slave) has opened in cinemas this week and has already made it into the top 10 in the UK box office chart.

More Summer ScreenMatteo Garrone’s beautiful fantasy horror film Tale of Tales featuring Hayley Carmichael as Dora gets its UK cinema release June 17th.
Also, on screen catch series two of Sony’s noir-superhero drama Powers starring Max Fowler, Gary Oliver playing the guest lead of John Gulliver in New Blood written by Anthony Horowitz for the BBC and Derek Hutchinson who appears in Versailles on BBC2. Pooky Quesnel, meanwhile, plays Agnes in Living & the Dead, series starts 28 June on BBC 1 and Kent Riley is series regular Barry in ITV’s Brief Encounters coming soon.
In other production news, Rocky Marshall will return as Agent James Hill in Series 3 of The Royals, Emma Handy plays Mrs Hallows in The Worst Witch and Robert Hands shoots crime thriller Wagstaff adapted from the novels by Adam Creed and directed by Colin Teague for ITV Encore. For the BBC Richard Teverson films Call The Midwife and the highly anticipated Taboo produced by Ridley Scott and Tom Hardy, Vincenzo Nicoli, Emma Handy and Kate Maravan guest in BBC’s The Coroner alongside regular Oliver Gomm and Nitin Kundra shoots the 3rd series of Count Arthur Strong written and directed by Graham Linehan. Joe Sims and Sara Powell, meanwhile, take on guest leads in the ever popular Midsomer Murders.

Bastard ExecutionerLisa Palfrey and Natasha Gordon join the much anticipated Line of Duty III series and Lisa can also be seen in Fox’s Bastard Executioner alongside Stefan Kalipha. Joe Sims plays Greff in ITV’s epic new take on Beowulf, Rocky Marshall plays Palace Security Agent James Hill in E!’s cult drama The Royals, Hayley Carmichael can currently be seen in Michaela Coel’s new Channel 4 comedy Chewing Gum and Thomas Coombes appears in Jekyll & Hyde again for ITV. Terence Beesley will appear in this winter’s BBC blockbuster War and Peace as well as the new series of The Musketeers whilst newcomer Carla Harrison Hodge and a busy Thomas Coombes will all appear in Tiger Aspect’s new police drama Cuffs at the end of this month. And keep tuned too for more of Roger Sloman’s gripping portrayal as Les and alter ego Christine currently playing out in Eastenders.

Max Fowler in PowersPooky Quesnel will play Louise in The A Word a six part drama about an autistic boy and his family directed by Dominic LeClerc. Rose O’Loughlin shoots Small Town the story of two Irish youngsters who head off to London to start again for TV3 written and directed by IFTA winning Gerard Barrett. Ken Bones continues shooting Medici Kingdom of Gold in Rome, Max Fowler is back in Atlanta reprising his role as Krispin Stockley in the second series of Powers for Sony Picture Entertainment.

20150711Terence Beesley joins the cast of Peter Moffat’s new six-part BBC drama Undercover a complex transatlantic drama which centres on the relationship of an undercover police officer in the years following the 1996 death of a black civil rights leader. Also for the BBC Pooky Quesnel joins the cast of its supernatural period drama The Living and The Dead directed by Alice Troughton. For FOX 21 Lisa Palfrey shoots the much anticipated Bastard Executioner a new drama from the creators of Sons of Anarchy set during the Welsh Rebellion. Rocky Marshall plays the regular role of Palace Security Agent James Hill in E!’s cult drama The Royals created by Mark Schwahn. Richard Teverson has just wrapped on The Untitled Donald Crowhurst Project directed by ‘The Theory of Everything’s’ BAFTA winning director James Marsh. Hayley Carmichael meanwhile plays Doreen, in Retort’s 6 part comedy drama Chewing Gum adapted from Michaela Coel’s award winning play Chewing Gum Dreams which premiered at the National Theatre last year. Carla Harrison Hodge plays Collette in Brighton based police drama CUFFS from Tiger Aspect whilst the ever popular Silent Witness returns with Thomas Coombes, Jude Monk McGowan and Jay Simpson all shooting guest roles.

What to see? Our New Year’s tips

17th December 2014Kickstarting January is the second series of Broadchurch in which Joe Sims reprises his role as Nigel Carter in the gripping crime drama. Also on ITV this January Hermione Gulliford plays regular Elizabeth Addis in Foyles War which returns with three new 2 hour films. On BBC2 Wolf Hall premiers featuring Max Fowler in the Peter Kosminsky screen adaptation of Hillary Mantel’s books. Mr Selfridge returns for a third series introducing Rocky Marshall as new regular DI Purkiss whilst Pooky Quesnel gains a promotion in the tenth and final series of Waterloo Road, on screens from January.

On film, catch Ridley Scott’s epic Exodus ‘Gods and Kings’ featuring Ken Bones opening in cinemas on Boxing Day. Kenneth Branagh’s much talked about live action Cinderella is scheduled for release early 2015 with Tom Edden as the Lizard Footman whilst The Royal Exchanges’ recently filmed Hamlet, featuring Jodie McNee also gains a cinema release early next year. Expect The Pride with Lisa Palfrey and Mr Turner also with Tom Edden to feature brightly during awards season.

On stage, recent openings playing during the holidays include Daniel Coonan as the menacing Black Dog in Polly Findley’s Treasure Island for The National Theatre. Also for the National, Jodie McNee and Hermione Gulliford continue their run in Three Winters. Matt Rawle plays stowaway Billy Crocker in Anything Goes at The Sheffield Cruicible and Vincenzo Nicoli is the Mafioso Duke of Venice in Ruper Goold’s inspired staging of Merchant of Venice at The Almeida.

Completing their West End runs in January are Ferdy Roberts (Shakespeare in Love), Tafline Steen (King Charles III) and Scott Karim (Great Britain) whilst Tom Edden (Les Misérables) and Richard Dempsey (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory) will continue into the new year.

Geraldine Alexander, meanwhile, opens at The Lowry, Manchester as Siobhan in The National’s Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night Time which is now touring whilst Gavin Spokes continues his hugely successful run as Francis Henshell in the One Man 2 Guvnors also touring with The National Theatre.

Hayley Carmichael will be working with director Matteo Garrone in his English language debut The Tale Of Tales – The Old Woman Who Was Skinned, a film based on the gruesome Neapolitan fairy tale of two sisters and starring Vincent Cassel and Salma Hayek. Rocky Marshall and Benjamin Davies meanwhile are due to begin shooting Remainder based on the book by Tom McCarthy and directed by Omer Fast for Tigerlily Films. Pride, Matthew Warchus’s film debut with Lisa Palfrey will premier at the Cannes Film Festival as the closing night film in the directors’ fortnight section. Mike Leigh’s Mr Turner featuring Tom Edden has officially been selected in competition at Cannes as has Ken Loach’s Jimmy’s Hall featuring Colm Gormley.

TV Latest

Max Fowler joins the regular cast of Wolf Hall, the BBC’s much anticipated adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s prize winning novel directed by Peter Kosminsky and starring Mark Rylance and Damien Lewis. Rocky Marshall will join the third series of ITV’s Mr Selfridge as new regular DI Purkiss whilst Farshid Rokey films The BBC’s army drama Our Girl shooting in South Africa. Hermione Gulliford and Ferdy Roberts continue to film the third Foyles War film whilst Thomas Coombes makes a guest appearance in Atlantis the popular BBC drama directed by Justin Molotnikov. Ken Bones will be joining the cast in series 4 of ITV’s Scott and Bailey directed by Simon Delaney.

Watch out for more from Roger Sloman as funeral director Les Coker in Eastenders whilst Amy Marston can be seen playing Martha Hawkins in Channel 4’s Devil’s Whore sequel New Worlds available on catchup. Sarah Winman’s Undeniable is also available on ITV Player.

Congratulations to Joe Sims (Broadchurch) and Thomas Coombes (Him and Her The Wedding) which have been nominated for best drama series and TV comedy respectively at this year’s BAFTAs.

Theatre Update

180414 TheatreHermione Gulliford will be playing Vivienne in Hotel at The National Theatre’s Shed. The tropical thriller, a new play by Polly Stenham will be directed by Maria Aberg. Emma Handy will play Kristin in Chichester’s Minerva Studio Miss Julie a new version written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, directed by Jamie Glover. Tom Edden will be appearing as Monsieur Thénardier in Les Misérables the world famous musical, playing in the West End from June. Openings include Tafline Steen as Jess in King Charles III at The Almeida which has recieved five star reviews whilst Jay Simpson starts his RSC run in Stratford-Upon-Avon at the end of the month playing Black Will in The Arden of Faversham. Also Richard Teverson will be opening in How Many Miles To Babylon at The Lyric Belfast.

Autumn Theatre Update 250913Tom Edden will be starring as Fagin in Sheffield Theatres’ production of the musical Oliver! directed by Daniel Evans at The Crucible.

Molly Logan plays the lead Mary Mooney in The Tricycle’s Once A Catholic directed by Kathy Burke. The dark comedy written by Mary O’Malley opens in November followed by a short run at Liverpool’s Royal Court in January.

Meanwhile out of London, Gavin Spokes is on tour with Headlong’s critically acclaimed 1984. Joe Sims joins the cast of Doug Lucie’s Solid Air at Theatre Royal Plymouth, directed by Mike Bradwell. Christopher Harper will play Ratty in Kenneth Grahame’s classic children’s story The Wind in The Willows at The Royal and Derngate this Christmas whilst Richard Teverson will be at The Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough in The Schoolmistress. And Farshid Rokey joins Richard Wilson’s production of Love Your Soldiers at Sheffield Crucible playing the roles of Babur/Hakim.

London Openings include Richard Dempsey in Michael Grandage’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Geraldine Alexander in The Empty Quarter at The Hampstead Downstairs and Rocky Marshall in Matthew Dunster’s The Love Girl & The Innocent at Southwark Playhouse.

Summer Nights

Lisa Palfrey in Family TreeHBO’s mockumentary series Family Tree directed by Christopher Guest and featuring Lisa Palfrey as Luba, Chris O’Dowd’s Moldovan stepmother also tx’s BBC2 10pm from Tuesday July 16. Regular viewers of Eastenders will have seen Carl’s dramatic arrival in the square – watch out for Daniel Coonan whose storylines in the show promise to be huge this summer. And Jay Simpson and Vincenzo Nicoli can both be seen in exciting new Channel 4 drama Run which begins txs July.

Eliza Graves Film PosterRobert Hands is filming the feature Eliza Graves. Directed by Brad Anderson and based on an early work of Edgar Allen Poe. Robert will be appearing alongside Kate Beckinsale and Jim Sturgess and is currently shooting in Sofia. Amy Marston has just been cast in New World by Peter Flannery and Martine Brant. This four parter for Channel 4, the next chapter of The Devils Whore, will be directed by Charles Martin for Company Pictures. Also for Company Pooky Quesnel is filming Truckers, a five-part drama written by William Ivory set in Nottingham with Sue Tully directing. Also Richard Teverson and Hermione Gulliford are filming guest roles on series two of The Bletchley Circle. Rocky Marshall shoots legal drama Silk for the BBC and Derek Hutchinson films By Any Means a new Tony Jordon drama for the BBC.

Summer Fun

ITV has commissioned Hartswood to make a 6 x 60 minutes comedy drama series titled Edge Of Heaven starring Nitin Kundra in the role of Tandeep Chatterjee. Written by Robert Evans the series follows the organised chaos of the Taylor-Chatterjee family and shoots starts late August. Cosima Shaw is filming Toast a new 6 part sitcom for Channel 4, directed by Michael Cumming, written by Arthur Matthews (Father Ted) and Matt Berry. Roger Sloman and Richard Dempsey both film guest roles in the new series of Doc Martin which Nigel Cole directs.

LogosKen Bones has been confirmed for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode, details of which are being kept a closely guarded secret but has been written by Steve Moffatt and will be directed in 3D by Nick Hurran.  Pooky Quesnel and Jay Simpson have both signed up to Hartswood Film’s The Guilty, a 3 part drama for ITV  directed by Ed Bazalgette which deals with the fall out after the disappearance of a 4 year old boy.  Del Synnott joins the cast of  The Great Train Robbery playing gang member Brian Field and featuring in Julian Jarrold and James Strong’s separate films for World Productions charting The Robber’s Tale and The Policeman’s Tale. Cosima Shaw, meanwhile, shoots new Warner Bros pilot The Selection set in an apocalyptic world and helmed by Alex Graves. Sara Powell and Robert Hands film guest roles in Love & Marriage, Tiger Aspects news comedy drama whilst Rocky Marshall completes filming on Montana, a British vigilante thriller set in London’s East End and directed by Mo Ali.
