Greg Hicks plays Aegisthus opposite Brie Larson in Daniel Fish’s revival of Elektra at The Duke of Yorks Theatre from January.  The London transfer of Kyoto has also been confirmed for January after its success at the RSC this year. Jenna Augen will reprise the role of Shirley Pearlman at Soho Place with directors Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin reuniting.  Anita Reynolds joins the cast of Backstroke at the Donmar Warehouse, written and directed by Anna Mackmin and with Tamsin Greig and Celia Imrie playing mother and daughter.  Colm Gormley will next be seen at Hampstead Theatre in An Interrogation written and directed by Jamie Armitage and George Caple returns to Boys From the Blackstuff but this time taking on the main role of Chrissie.  

Openings include James Doherty who leads the cast of the Hans Christian Anderson classic Red Shoes at the RSC this Christmas, Dorothea Myer Bennett who plays Olivia in Twelfth Night at The Orange Tree, Fred Haig who who plays Ernst Ludwig in Rebecca Frecknall’s acclaimed production of Cabaret,  Rhys Rusbatch who returns to the RSC in Prasanna Puwanarajah’s production of Twelfth NightRichard Dempsey in Dr Strangelove at The Noël Coward and Robert Hands who has taken over the role of Myers in Witness For the Prosecution; all playing this Christmas.

Summer Stage 24

We are thrilled to highlight the remarkable projects our talented actors are involved in this summer.

Thomas Coombes stars as Michael in “Death of England” a powerful one-person play by Roy Williams. Part of Williams’ acclaimed trilogy, this revival by The National Theatre and Bill Kenwright is directed by Clint Dyer and takes place at Soho Place.

Greg Hicks returns to The National Theatre, taking on the role of Pa Joad in “Grapes of Wrath.” This adaptation of Steinbeck’s classic is brought to life under the direction of Carrie Cracknell.

Tom Edden will play Lucky in Beckett’s masterpiece “Waiting For Godot“, opening at The Theatre Royal Haymarket and directed by James Macdonald.

Jodie McNee returns to the Royal Shakespeare Company in David Edgar’s new play “The New Real,” directed by Holly Race Raughan. At the same time, Jenna Augen stars in the RSC’s production of “Kyoto,” a new work by The Jungle creators Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson, directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin.

Dorothea Myer Bennett teams up again with Patrick Marber in a new piece of writing “What We Talk About When We Talk About Ann Frank” which will premiere at the Marylebone Theatre. 

Molly Logan joins The Gate Theatre, Dublin, as Maggie in the revival of “Dancing at Lughnasa,” directed by Caroline Byrne. Anita Reynolds is part of the cast of “The Comedy of Errors” at Shakespeare’s Globe, while Colm Gorley performs in “Much Ado About Nothing,” both directed by Sean Holmes.

George Caple continues to impress in the Liverpool Royal Court’s West End transfer of “Boys From the Blackstuff.” We are also looking forward to seeing Chris Harper join the UK tour of the revival of Yasmina Reza’s “ART.”

Spring Stage News

A busy season of theatre is coming up to start the year. Jenna Augen and Dorothea Myer Bennet will both appear in the Young Vic production of Nachtland (translated as a place of eternal darkness) a new satire from German playwright Marius Von Mayberg and directed by Patrick Marber. Kate Fahy joins the cast of the National Theatre’s production of Dodie Smith revival Dear Octopus with Emily Burns directing.

Stephen Kennedy also returns to the National Theatre in London Tide based on Charles Dickens’ Our Mutual Friend with Ian Rickson directing and music by PJ Harvey. Hywel Morgan, Daniel Rabin and Tafline Steen all join the cast in Rob Icke’s production of The Player Kings with Ian McKellan as Falstaff and playing at the Noel Coward Theatre. Jodie McNee takes the lead in the stage adaptation of Minority Report , directed by Max Webster and opening at Nottingham Playhouse before transferring to London and Howard Ward returns to the Almeida production of The Hunt which transfers to New York with Rupert Goold directing.

Greg Hicks will next be seen at the Marylebone Theatre in a solo show inspired by Dostoevsky’s The Dream of a Ridiculous Man , directed by Lawrence Boswell. Hayley Carmichael appears in the world premiere of Shed at Manchester’s Royal Exchange, Phoebe Eclair Powell’s Bruntwood Prize winning play and Olivia Onyehara opens in A Song For Ella Grey, Northern Stage and Pilot Theatre’s ambitious new staging of David Skellig’s award winning novel adapted from the Orpheus myth. Lily Beau plays the lead role of Ffion in the National Theatre of Wales production of Feral Monsters and Sam Alexander will transfer with the Bath Theatre Royal production of Machinal to The Old Vic.

Spring Stage

Laura Rogers has been cast in the new Jack Thorne play When Winston Went To The War On The Wireless. Katy Rudd directs and the play premiers at the Donmar next month. Tom Edden will reprise his role as Bella Zangler as Chichester Theatre’s hit revival of Crazy For You transfers to the Gillian Lynne theatre West End from June 2023. Meanwhile, Tamsin Carrol and Fred Haig journey to Chichester for this year’s summer staging of Rock Follies in the Minerva directed by Dominic Cooke. Sandy Foster returns to the RSC in Falkland Sound, a new play that opens 40 years after the Falklands Islands were invaded, directed by Aaron Parsons and the world premiere of Ken Loach’s I, Daniel Blake with David Nellist in the title role tours the UK from this spring. Dorothea Myer Bennett opens in Possession, a powerful new play by Sasha Hails depicting motherhood and colonialism at The Arcola and Molly Logan returns to The Globe in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Ellie White directing.

Greg Hicks continues in the award winning Oklahoma at The Wyndhams, John Mackay, Dan Rabin and Mariah Louca all reprise their roles in The Doctor when Robert Icke’s production plays in New York at the Park Avenue Armory and Jenna Augen continues to play on Broadway in the transfer of Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt directed by Patrick Marber.

Autumn Stage

Jodie McNee joins the Michael Grandage Company who are bringing Orlando to the West End stage for a strictly limited run. Virginia Woolf’s gender defining historical fiction has been adapted by Neil Bartlett with Emma Corrin in the title role and will play at The Garrick Theatre until February 2023. Mariah Louca, John Mackay and Dan Rabin are all appearing in The Doctor, Robert Icke’s brilliant reimagining of Schnitzler’s 1912 play originally for The Almeida and now playing at the Duke Of Yorks. Also currently appearing in the West End are Tamsin Carroll in 2:22 at the Criterion, Jason Callender in Upstart Crow at the Apollo and Robert Hands and James Doherty in Come From Away at the Phoenix Theatre.

Gavin Spokes is in rehearsal at The National Theatre for Kerry Jackson, a biting new comedy by April de Angelis whilst Jay Simpson and Colm Gormley also return to The National in Clint Dyer’s Othello playing in The Lyttleton from November. Richard Dempsey has opened in The Almeida’s hit new musical Tammy Faye which runs until December and Hayley Carmichael opens in Soho Theatre’s Super High Resolution, Nathan Ellis’s debut play about being a doctor in the NHS with Blanch McIntyre directing.

Tom Edden has joined Josie Rourke’s production of As You Like It which will open Soho Place , London’s newest theatre. Greg Hick‘s brings Dinner With Groucho Frank McGuinness’ new play to London after its successful premiers at the Dublin and Belfast International Festivals and Justin Avoth joins Witness For the Prosecution at County Hall. Further afield, Jenna Augen has opened on Broadway in Leopoldstadt, Tom Stoppard’s latest play whilst across the Channel Oliver Dench takes on the role of Cliff in Cabaret at the Lido Theatre, Paris and Daniel Crossley joins the cast of 42nd Street at Theatre du Chatelet.

Summer Stage

Gavin Spokes returns to the National Theatre in Kerry Jackson, a new play by April de Angelis with Indhu Rubsingham directing.  Jay Simpson is also going back to The National joining Clint Dyer’s cast of Othello.   John Mackay joins the Almeida Theatre’s production of The Doctor with Robert Icke directing the West End transfer and joins Mariah Louca and Daniel Rabin who reprise their original roles. Kate Fahy is back in the London revival of Moira Buffini’s award winning play Handbagged and Jenna Augen returns to Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt for the Broadway transfer.

Olivia Onyehara is in RSC rehearsals for Blanche McIntyre’s All’s Well That Ends Well in which she plays Diana and Guy Rhys will play Benedict in Sheffield Theatre’s Much Ado About Nothing with Rob Hastie directing.  Openings include Sara Powell in Jamie Lloyd’s The Seagull, Tom Edden in Chichester Festival Theatre’s Crazy For You and Stephen Kennedy and Derek Hutchinson in Deborah Warner’s The Tempest playing at Bath Ustinov.   Robert Hands and James Doherty continue in Come From Away at The Phoenix Theatre and Richard Teverson is at London County Hall in the ever popular Witness For the Prosecution.

Autumn Watch
Part II

On Screen:

Jodie McNee can be seen in Series 3 of Britannia on Sky and will next be seen in new 4 part ITV drama Hollington Drive which airs from late September. Oliver Dench and Greg Hicks both guest star in Sky Atlantic’s Dominia and watch out for Oliver in the new year in brand new drama Hotel Portofino as well. Josie Walker plays Auntie Violet in Kenneth Branagh’s feature film Belfast which premieres in the UK in November. 

Andrew Koji’s recent feature Snake Eyes is now on general release and will be available on home media in October and Chris Harper appears in The War Below streaming now on Amazon.   Also upcoming on Amazon is thriller All The Old Knives directed by Janus Metz and featuring Karina Wiedman and arrives this autumn. Watch out too for the release of Danny Boyle’s new Sex Pistols drama Lonely Boy based on guitarist Steve Jones’ memoir and in which Jay Simpson plays his abusive stepfather Ron. 

On Stage:

Tamsin Carroll leads the National Theatre production of Hex this Autumn – a twist on the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale,  Rufus Norris directs. Laura Rogers has opened in the Hampstead Theatre revival of The Memory of Water and is currently in rehearsals for the West End transfer of National Theatre production of The Ocean at the End of the Lane at the Duke of York’s. 
Jenna Augen and Dorothea Myer Bennett return in Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt at The Wyndham’s Theatre and James Doherty is back in Come From Away at The Phoenix Theatre. 

John Mackay and Hayley Carmichael join the cast of HOME in this revival for Chichester Festival of the modern David Storey classic directed by Josh Roche and Patrick Brennan takes the lead role of Phil in Broken Lad, a new play by Robin Hooper directed by Richard Spier at The Arcola. Also this autumn Jordan Mifsúd revives his role as Colbert in While the Sun Shines at the Orange Tree and Christopher Harper returns in the dual roles of Lesgate and Hubbard in the UK tour of Dial M For Murder directed by Anthony Banks.

Autumn Stage

Tom Edden returns to the Jamie Lloyd Company as De Guiche in Cyrano de Bergerac opposite James McCoy in the title role at The Playhouse Theatre. Thomas Coombes makes his Royal Court debut as Mark in A Kind of People, a new play by Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti with Michal Buffong directing. Jodie Mcnee takes the title role of Faustus in That Damned Woman, a gender swap reimagining for Headlong Theatre opening at Lyric Hammersmith, Caroline Byrne directs. Scott Karim opens in The Arrival at The Bush Theatre, an exciting new family drama written and directed by Artistic Director Bijan Sheibani.

Gavin Spokes will play King George III in the phenomenon that is Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre whilst Ferdy Roberts also returns to the West End in the revival of Connor McPherson’s The Girl From the North Country at The Geilgud Theatre from December. Also opening is Josie Walker as Old Mrs Hempstock in The Ocean at the End of the Lane at The National Theatre.
Looking ahead Jenna Augen and Dorothea Myer Bennett will be playing Rosa and Hannah in Tom Stoppard’s epic new play Leopoldstadt which Patrick Marber directs for Sonia Friedmann Productions at The Wyndham’s Theatre early 2020. Dan Rabin transfers to the West End with Rob Icke’s Alemida Theatre production of The Doctor. Chris Harper joins the cast of Hitchcock classic Dial M For Murder, directed by Anthony Banks and opening at Richmond Theatre whilst Olwen May joins the cast of Band of Gold which Kay Mellor has adapted and will direct in a world stage premiere.

Recent openings to try and see include Ashna Rabheru in [BLANK], a new play by Alice Birch directed by Maria Aberg for The Donmar and Jack James Ryan in Chichester Festival Theatre’s Sing Yer Heart Out For the Lads directed by Nicole Charles.

Tafline Steen plays River in Appropriate by Brandon Jacobs -Jenkins at The Donmar which Ola Ince directs. Josie Walker returns to The National playing Old Mrs Hempstock in The Ocean At The End of The Lane , Neil Gamain’s fantasy novel adapted to the stage and directed by Katy Rudd. Ferdy Roberts plays Dr Walker in the first revival of Conor McPherson’s Girl From The North Country which returns to the West End at the Gielgud Theatre. Daniel Rabin joins Robert Icke’s final production of at The Almeida The Doctor, Natalie Radmall- Quirke joins the cast of Ned Bennet’s Equus which comes to the Trafalgar Studio’s and Sophie Duval and Sam Alexander reprise their roles in Laura Wade’s The Watsons which transfers from CFT to The Menier Chocolate Factory. At the Globe Sophie Stone is Jacques in As You Like It directed by Elle While, Anita Reynolds plays in The Merry Wives of Windsor, whilst Jenna Augen joins Bartholomew Fair with director Blanche Mcintyre.

Openings include Tamsin Carroll in Peter Gynt at The National directed by Jonathan Kent, Scott Karim in Oklahoma! at Chichester Festival Theatre director Jeremy Sam , Patrick Brennan in Greg Doran’s Measure for Measure at the RSC and Tomi Ogbaro in Dominic Hill’s A Midsummer Nights Dream at Regents Park. Rupert Goold’s The Hunt with Howard Ward has opened to rave reviews at The Almeida and Jodie McNee has earned high praise for her performance as Belvedere in Venice Preserved at RSC Stratford. Jordan Mifsúd and Dorothea Myer-Bennett continue in Rattigan’s While The Sun Shines at The Orange Tree whilst Hayley Carmichael has opened in Peter Brooks WHY? at Bouffes Du Nord Paris.
